I have been traveling quite a bit lately. It all started at the end of November when I went to the Philippines. I saw the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. I went with my friends Jonathan and Kim. Kim (the blonde one) and I have been friends for 30 years….a lifetime. Jonathan is wonderful and has been my friend for only 8 years because he is so young. The beach was an impressive site to behold. I stayed at the Amanpulo Resort. We had a great time and went fishing. We all caught these beautiful fish.
Directly from the Philippines I flew to NY for a shoe show where I met with Ed the head of operations for Caparros in Los Angeles….along with Brenda the sales manager for the North East and Mo the creative director of the company. Everyone has been with the company a very long time and we are very good friends. See pictures of Ed, Mo, Brenda and I in our New York showroom. I was there for business but we always manage to have a lot of fun in our work.
From New York I went to Puerto Rico and had the pleasure of meeting Edward James Olmos and Lymari Nadal (she was the wife of the Denzel Washington character in American Gangster). I am on a roll meeting famous people.
I can’t believe I went to the Governor of Puerto Rico’s birthday party. His wife is my cousin and here I am with the Honorable Anibal Acevedo Vila. It was a memorable evening.
Then I was off to Hong Kong. I had the good fortune of being able to stay in Hong Kong for a month. I attended the JP Classic Tennis tournament and here are a few of the highlights. I got my picture taken with Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams which was very exciting!
After my brief month in Hong Kong, I went back to Puerto Rico to visit family and friends. To complicate things a bit I went from PR to Athens through Madrid, Spain. It turned out to be wishful thinking on my part as there was a major snow storm in Greece and I spent two days between the Madrid airport and the Madrid airport Hotel. I could not get to Greece so it was not meant to be. What can I say….I have been very interested in going to Greece all my life and a major snowstorm destroys my plans of going to the Acropolis, the Oracle of Delphi and the Temple of Athena. Oh well… next time. After my around the world trip I was exhausted when I finally got back to Hong Kong.
There is nothing better than back to back around the world trips to keep me forever in jetlagged land. I arrived in HKG on Feb 22nd and stayed until March 20th when I started the next around the world trip. I visited our Los Angeles office and spent Easter weekend with my friends in San Francisco. Here is a picture of lunch with Suze Orman and Nancy Wells. We all had a great time.
Here I am with one of my very best friends Kathy Travis. What a wonderful person. She did not let me turn the ham upside down before we cooked it for Easter Sunday so when we did finish cooking it…the ham had a plastic thing on the bottom that said “remove before cooking”. What a hoot. It was really funny but we cut the ham part off near the plastic and that ham was delicious.
From San Francisco I flew to Milan to look at pretty windows and get lots of ideas to design shoes. I was once again with Mo who is great. She is not only the creative director of Caparros, she has been my friend for over 20 years and has worked with me over the last 13 years. She is a pleasure to travel with and always a lot of fun.
After Milan it was off to Paris for a week. We worked long hours and walked all over Paris getting inspiration for our next line of Caparros Shoes. And get inspiration we did. We love these trips. We ate a lot of wonderful seafood and salads and enjoyed the long walks.
From Paris it was back home to Hong Kong where I live with my four Dogs that I adore.
And guess what I will be home for one and a half months. I returned on the fourth of April and I am finally settled down as today is the 17th of April. Watch for my next blog entry. You never know what the next travel will bring.
Life goes on and I am on my karmic treadmill more than I am on a real treadmill. Tomorrow is another day…what wonders will it bring.
Love the shoes you have and the ones you will buy. We hope they are Caparros shoes.

Dear Anavel, I love your designs, in particular the Caparros "Val" in the "Vintage Silk" color. I have been looking everywhere for this shoe, and tried it on in a size 8.5, and loved it. I mistakenly returned it, and now am trying so hard to find it again. But it seems to be discontinued by stores. I am deeply saddened by this, because the shoe was the perfect height (2.5") considering most classy shoes are much higher and uncomfortable, this height was perfect, the style and design were so comfortable, and I loved every aspect of the shoe (rhinestone detail, silver piped lining, the pale pinkish purple color). I am writing this comment to you, in hopes that you may be able to tell me where I could purchase this shoe, and hopefully it has not been discontinued? I really would love to know. It is the only color and style that perfectly matches a wedding outfit that I have. Thank you.... Sincerely, Sarah

Dear Ms Caparro, I was searching for shoes for my outfit for my son's wedding (August 1, 2009) I knew that when I found that SPECIAL pair of heels, I'd know it. I looked in stores locally and found some nice shoes. I was looking online at dsw.com and found one of your shoes. The dripping gorgeous red heels. THE ONES! They have sexy bow draped over the front of the shoe I was afraid to look at the price and when I did I was so happy that they were affordable. I thank you for that. These red heels were going to be THE best part of my outfit!! LOL Sadly, I couldn't walk in the 3 inch heel. I was so heartbroken. I must return them. But you make the most beautiful shoes. Thank you again. If only these certain shoes came in a lower heel. Now that I've found your company, I will always shop for your shoes. Thank you Adrianne I

Hello Ananvel: Just purchased a pair of your Zora sandals for a formal event - they're soooo comfortable and beautiful! I look forward to dancing the night away in them! I haven't worn heels very much lately (I'm a teacher), but the heels on these shoes feel so light and strong, I think I'll be ok. Thanks for designing such a great pair of shoes! By the way, I've also gone to the Philippines recently. What a lovely country! Thanks again and please continue to design beautiful, yet functional shoes for women!

Anavel, I absolutely love your shoes! I started finding them in stores in Florida about 5 years ago and have sought after them ever since! My collection is around 30 pairs now, but I don't get to wear them too much since I live in Maryland for the most part and have to wear boots to keep warm, and because I've been working so much lately (I'm an insurance adjuster and have to climb roofs all the time, traveling 3 weeks out of every month all over the country). I always carry a pair of your shoes wherever I go, just in case an opportunity arises where I can wear them. I always get compliments whenever I wear them out and my friends are always trying to borrow them from me. I'm getting married this October, and I'm waiting to find the perfect pair of Caparros to wear. I haven't been too lucky here in MD, but I'm hoping my travels into other cities will help me find those special shoes. Do you have anything new coming out? -Lindsey

Hi Anavel. I was born and raised in San Juan PR, but have lived in NYC for the last twenty five years. I remember having heard about you, because we have friends ( or acquaintances) in common. At any rate, "cut to" all this time later, and I find myself in Bloomingdales ( not so long ago) buying a pair of lovely sequined black pumps from your line. I got many compliments on them, but the real reason I bought them was the fact that they were made of "man made materials". I remember thinking that it would be great to have someone develop a line to compete with Stella Mc Cartney. I have a few of her shoes, but Oh mi Gawd... the expense !!! - But here were your shoes arguably "cuter", much more comfortable, just as "fashion forward" , much more affordable, etc... So, I wanted to share this with you. In fact, I contacted someone who knows you in P.R. and asked them to tell you, but ... you know how messages go.... So here I am, about two years later, shopping on- line, & I come across... your blog. So, for whatever it's worth, there is my idea..... Oprah interviewed someone in her "Soul Series" xm radio series on line the other day, and the author spoke about animal /environmental rights..... Guess who's shoes she spoke about... Yup, Stella Mc Cartney ! :) If you ever launch or organize any of your lines for us "manmade -loving" shoe people please let me know. Much success ! :) Celeste Arzuaggah, NYC, NY

Dear Anavel: I love you, you have made my feet so very happy for years, best of all at a reasonable price. I bought my first Caparros back in 1997. It was the first time I saw them on a little boutique in Caparra, Puerto Rico. I still have them and wear them and they look like new. The store closed and I could not get them again. Until the internet came. I buy them from Zappos.com now. Last month I bought four pairs. I am so glad you are our governors' wife 's cousin. She is adorable and I voted for him and will vote again for him this year. I admire them very much and he is a very kind, intelligent and special man. I read your blogs and I hope God give you a lot of health and stamina so that you make shoes for us for a lot of years to come. I would also like to know if there is a store in Puerto Rico where I can buy my Caparros in person. May God bless you and your company. Everytime I wear one of your pairs everybody wants to know where did I get those beautiful shoes and they ask if they cost me a fortune. I always say they are Caparros and no they only cost me 60 to 90 bucks and they always reply WOW! where can I get them? So I need a place in PR, not everybody wants to buy on internet. Love Alina
